Hooves were horrible on these roads when they were wet. I panicked as I looked back and saw the two men running toward me.

I took a deep breath and renewed my effort to get down the street, finding much success in by hopping on top of the stones instead of trying to run like I normally would. I was gaining good time until I collided with something very hard and very cold. Looking up, my mouth gaped open.

What appeared to be an unyielding wall of ice blocked the narrow street, heads taller than me. I just stared at it. Someone had frozen the rain as it fell, creating a thin but quite solid barrier. I heard a splash of water from behind. I turned just in time to see the wall falling to the ground, returned to water. Before I could even tell my legs to run again, there was a sharp pain in the back of my neck. My legs buckled and my head tingled unpleasantly as my sight blurred. I watched the ground rush up at me.
