after seeing the half-blood. He tossed her a grin, and the blond quickly turned away.
“Do you have identification papers, sir?”
“I’m afraid not,” Levent answered shortly. Though it had been a small phrase, I recognized the ‘I’m talking and I don’t want to be’ accent in it.
“That’s too bad,” she answered, though her tone did not go with the words. “We will have to take you into custody until we can find you some.”
She made a sharp gesture to her cadets, and two stepped forward and pulled the kin’s hands behind his back. He frowned deeply but did not struggle. I watched, shocked as they put a set of handcuffs around his wrists.
This was not just being detained, this was being arrested! I opened my mouth to object, but Rio clasped a hand over it.
“Thanks for capturing that dangerous dragon-kin, ladies! We’ll just be off then,” he yelled.
“Wait,” the blond instructed. “If you have a connection to this dragon-kin, we will need you to answer as well.”
“Well, fortunately we don’t. Do we, honey?”
I raised an eyebrow as the hand around my mouth pulled my head into shaking ‘no’.
“No, of course not,” the half-blood continued. “Well, time to go. We’re very tired from this traumatic encounter. Ta-ta!”
Before the woman could stop us again, Rio grabbed me around the elbow and ran around the corner of a fisherman’s shack. Once we were safely walking down a road that led in the opposite direction of the soldiers, I gave the half-blood a glare.
“That was not very nice, you know.”
“Of course I know, but it’s not my fault your dragon-kin did not have some fancy papers. Besides, our getting locked up is not my plan for the evening.”
“And, pray tell, what is your plan?”
As a grin spread across the half-blood’s face, I felt uneasiness settle in my stomach.
“You’ll see.”
