ell that was fun,” Rio said as we crawled back into the inn via the window. As I predicted, the kin had a tough time of it. He eventually tumbled in after us. I removed my nurse’s robe and went around the room, lighting the lamps. It was nearing morning already.
“Your definition of fun is a little off,” I pointed out, resisting the urge to grin. Our mission had been a success against all odds.
“Perhaps. Now, all three of us have to lay low for the next few days. Those soldiers’ll be keeping eyes out for us, I’m sure.”
“How do you suggest we do that?” It seemed unlikely for a dragon-kin, a half-blood and a faun to just ‘lay low’ in this city.
“Just stay out of trouble, and stay away from the harbor,” Rio said. “Those girls only patrol where there are immigrants to catch, so I doubt we’ll run into any of them further in town. Plus, we can see them coming with those bright red and yellow uniforms.”
I frowned as I lit another candle.
The half-blood had been right so far, but I would not believe that those soldiers would give up so easily. The Delfaethan in particular had been personally shamed by our antics, and she did appear to be the one in charge. I would not blame her for holding a full-scale hunt for our skins.
“Don’t look so worried, m’lady. This will all be fine. You should be happy we got your friend out of jail, anyway.” He waved a hand at the kin, who simply stared through him.
I stood there a moment before I made an exasperated sound that caught both the males’ attentions. This was just a little too much to handle, and the part of me that was elated at Levent’s freedom was overwhelmed by the extreme need to sleep.
“I’m going to bed,” I announced, picking up my bag and moving toward the other room.
The innkeeper had put the extra bed in the larger room, and the only decent way to divvy this up was to have the males sleep together. Before I could get through the door, though, the half-blood jumped in front of me.
“I’ll take this room,” he announced, blocking the doorway with his person.
“What?! Rio! That’s not proper at all! You two should share this room and let me have the other to myself.”
