I could not help but smile as I looked up at the sky, watching the white fluffs of snow as they fell toward me. Pulling my scarf closer around my chin, I spun around and nearly slipped upon the slick cobblestones. It was not cold enough for the snow to stick to the ground yet, but it landed in my hair and on my clothing. I watched the tiny flakes melt against the cloth and galloped over to Rio.

“Snow?” I said incredulously. “It’s autumn! What happened?”

“Well, it got cold and the rain began to solidify-" He began before I slapped his arm.

“Don’t be cheeky,” I scolded, smiling.

I looked up to Kewyn as she carefully walked down the stairs. She held her hand out to catch the flakes.

There was something incredible about snow. It came every year in these parts, so Rio and Kewyn should not have been so excited. Yet the blonde could not help the small smile that spread across her face. I had not seen snow in several years, as it rarely ever reached the Volin Isle. I was pretty excited about living in a place that snowed every year again. It reminded me of times during my childhood that I would spend with my mother, warming up water and having cider in our tree.

I gave a shuddering sigh. I did miss my mother.

Rio and Kewyn were smiling at each other, chatting excitedly about the prospect of the snow sticking around. Spinning, I spotted the kin leaning against the wall out of the way of the falling flakes. He was looking at the sky distantly.

“Do you like the snow?” I asked outright, shaking him out of his reverie. He looked at me like he had not even noticed Kewyn and I coming out of the house.

“I don’t mind it,” he mumbled, his eyes returning to the sky.

I smiled. “That’s good.”

One of his eyebrows shot up. “Why?”

I did not know exactly, actually. Why was it good? My mind quickly searched for an answer until I muttered lamely, “Well, the Spire’s bound to be covered in it, so…”

“Ah,” was his reply. “What about you?”

“What do you mean?” I said.

“You will be coming with us,” he said.

I blinked. “I really wasn’t planning on...”
