not know much about this dragon-kin, but I did know that the cold look his eyes had no mercy and no care. I did not want to see what this Theteau was capable of.

“It was you, wasn’t it? You attacked this tower, and killed everyone,” Kewyn’s fists were rolled into balls and her face was livid. “You killed them all!”

Theteau did not look at her, but I saw his smile twitch.

“Kewyn,” Rio said quietly, holding her back.

“They were trying to escape, to survive. You!” The blonde pointed at Theteau, shaking in anger. “You cut the line and killed my husband.”

I looked at the blonde out of the corner of my eye.

She was so sure and the  sick smile on her face chilled me. Something told me that she had been hoping to find out what happened in the Spire for so long that it pleased her to finally know. Her fingers twitched, desperate for her weapon.

“Tch. I’ve killed many of your kind, human.” Theteau spat, not even bothering to look at her. “You cannot expect me to remember each one.”

“You bastard,” Rio growled, but it only made the kin smile more.

My hand was slowly reaching my walking stick when Levent pulled out one of his own blades and pointed it at his ‘friend.’ It seemed he tired of talking. This amused Theteau further.

“Are you seriously challenging me, Levent?”

“I can kill you, Theteau. It has been decreed, you are never to return,” the longhaired kin muttered without pleasure.

Theteau’s grin widened. “It won’t happen.”

The blue-eyed kin lunged forward without warning, charging straight at Levent. He pushed me away, and I stumbled backward into Rio and Kewyn. Rio pulled us away as Levent and Theteau’s swords sliced through the air, the metal singing as they deftly blocked each other’s attacks. As they fought, it was apparent that Levent was the larger of the two, but Theteau had the advantage in his wings. Even as he was knocked off balance, the shorthaired dragon jumped backward and gracefully let his feet hit ground before resuming the offensive.

I snarled at him.

“Let’s go, m’lady,” Rio said, pulling my arm gently toward the door.

As Levent and Theteau’s fight pulled them into the room, we made a dash for it. Kewyn cursed but did not resist as we ran.
