the corner of my eye, but I was a little too slow to react to the hand that wrapped around my head.

“Got ya,” Theteau growled in delight as he threw me to the ground.

My head struck the ice with a sickening smack, the impact going through my whole body. I gasped in pain and shock, my eyes clamped shut. I heard Theteau growl something the wind knocked out of his lungs. I looked up in time to see Levent throw him bodily across the room, snow piling up around him as he slid.

I tried to get up, but ended up writhing on the ground instead.

“Can you stand?” The half-blood asked, leaning over me.

Self-healing was hundreds of times more difficult than healing another person, but I had to make sure I was not going to die from a seemingly minor head wound.

My fingers probed my scalp, feeling the tender spot where my head had hit the ground. There was only a little blood, thankfully. I propped myself on my elbows and began pushing magic through my fingertips.

Feeling my own magic probe the back of my skull was bizarre and unnerving. It took me a moment to get over the strange tingling. My skull was not cracked, thankfully. I pushed my magic a little further in. I shuddered as my mind was caught in the conflicting waves of giving and receiving magic. Tearing my hands from my head, I
